Presence

Three things we pay attention to.
BTDRE · The Framework
Presence, Purpose and Alignment. Three questions, used in every BTDRE season whatever the medium. They do not describe what someone is. They describe what we pay attention to when a person chooses how to appear.
Who is showing up?
Before anything is chosen, there is a person with a state, an energy and a week behind them. Presence is the act of noticing who is actually there.
What are they trying to express, accomplish or support?
Every expressive choice is asked to do something — to protect, to invite, to signal, to disappear. Purpose is naming that intention rather than leaving it implicit.
How do their choices relate to their sense of self and purpose in the situation?
Alignment is not a verdict and never a score. Nobody here decides whether a person is 'aligned'. It is a question they explore for themselves, in a real situation, with real consequences.
After alignment
Alignment can tell us something about the relationship between how we understand ourselves and how we express ourselves. But BTDRE does not assume coherence means the inquiry is finished. Comfort is not false and confidence is not suspect — they can simply be examined too.
Sometimes the next question is not “Where is the tension?” but:
What have I become so comfortable with that I have never thought to question it?
Questions beyond alignmentWhat may follow
What happens when someone becomes more conscious of that relationship?
Presence, Purpose and Alignment are the lens. Reflection and growth are the process that can follow when someone starts using it. Attention changes the next choice — and the next choice changes what a person notices about themselves.
Presence + Purpose + Alignment is the lens. Reflection and growth are what the lens can make possible — never a result BTDRE hands down to anyone.
The arc
Every season moves a person through the same human progression. Nobody is made over. The point is what becomes visible along the way.
The person as they already are, in their own words and their own wardrobe.
A creative world is introduced as a language for expression.
A defined stage asks for a choice that has to be made deliberately.
The choice is carried into a real environment, with real people in it.
What was intended, what happened and what surprised them are separated out.
The next choice is made with more of that awareness attached to it.
A look built for the person they are moving toward, presented in their own words.
